Iron Man 2009Iron Man Trophy: Back at Home at New Hope

The 2009 Southern California State Junior Olympic Men's Gymnastics Championship was held in Riverside, California on March 14-15, hosting over 500 athletes from over 30 different clubs.  At the competition, our Boys Team was awarded the prestigious Iron Man Trophy, making New Hope the #1 ranked men's club in the State.  The Iron Man point system measures a team's depth, and is calculated by taking scores from all levels, Level 5 through Level 10.  Leading the 2nd place team by a wide margin of 12.55 points, our Boys Team brought the perpetual trophy back to New Hope -- where it will reside until next year's State Championship.  This is New Hope's third Iron Man title, previously winning the coveted trophy in 2006 and 1996.

At the competition, our Boys Team also qualified 21 competitors to Regionals, and nine of our gymnasts were named as All-Star Team members to represent So Cal at the upcoming Regional championship.  The USAG Region 1 Championship represents the top men's gymnasts from five states:  Southern California, Northern California, Nevada, Arizona, and Hawaii (USAG divides the nation into 51 states, Southern California being the second largest behind Texas).  Gymnasts qualifying for Regionals include:  Maurice Armstrong, Cameron Bock, DJ Corpuz, Matt del JuncoNico del Junco, Jake Edberg, Jake Eisenman, Josh Haiker, Brandon Hsu, Ryan Koh, Yoshi Mori, Kenji Nishimura, Cory Nguyen, Tomi Nord, Tony Petelo, Damani Roberts, Jacob Silvestri, Jimmy Solano, Jonathan SpiroNicholas Spiro, and Shoma Yoshida.  The 2009 Region 1 Men's Gymnastics Championship will be held in Chandler, Arizona on April 1-5, 2009.

Great job, Boys!  Good luck at Regionals in Arizona -- and represent!
